About 400 employees of Tripura’s Health Department turned up for work on Saturday, a day marked as holiday for two purposes. Through this act they paid tribute to late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam who wanted everyone to contribute an extra day of work for the sake of the country.
Second Saturday of a calendar month is closing day for government offices in Tripura. Ker Puja – an annual tribal ritual performed in royal Ujjyanta Palace in Agartala - also fell on the day, thus a State holiday.
“The proposal to work today was totally appreciated and accepted by officers and staff. Accordingly, we took approval from the State government,” said an employee of the Directorate of Health Services.
Similarly employees of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine Directorate situated in same complex joined work to pay respect to the people’s President. Directors and top officials too attended and remained in office for the whole day.
Before starting work, employees of both directorates held a condolence meeting on the premises. They took an oath to contribute time and energy for nation building as was done by Dr. Kalam
